The Vegvisir Race Organization is thrilled to announce a renewed three-year commitment with the Municipality of Nyborg, continuing the race’s legacy in this vibrant location in the heart of Denmark.

Following four successful editions, the new agreement ensures that Vegvisir Race remains anchored in Nyborg, where sailors from across Europe have come to enjoy challenging courses, stunning waters, and the welcoming hospitality of the Nyborg community.

“Our partnership with Nyborg Sejlforening and the Municipality of Nyborg has become a cornerstone of the Vegvisir Race experience, and this renewed commitment strengthens our shared vision for growth and excitement in the coming years,” said Morten Brandt founder of Shorthand ECM, the company behind the concepts of sailing events like Vegvisir Race, Silverrudder Challenge, Round Denmark Race and Lyø Escape . “The next editions of Vegvisir Race will see bold updates and enhancements that are sure to engage our participants and enhance the race’s distinct competitive edge.”

  • Enhanced Courses: A fixed course format will be introduced for singlehanded racers for at least the next three editions. Perpetual Trophies will be awarded to the fastest participants, remaining in the hands of the fastest sailors in each category.

About Vegvisir Race

A Vegvisir is an Icelandic magical symbol that helps you to find your way. The myth says that the bearer of this sign never will get lost. On the contrary, he/she will always get through the storm and bad weather even when the route is unknown. But It will also help people to find the way in their lives.

Extreme demands on the participants

The race puts great demands on the participants’ skills, physics and tactical abilities. It will be an achievement to complete. During the development of the concept several formats were investigated. The result was a two course format that will challenge participants’ abilities to use their electronics on board as navigators, meteorologists, tacticians and strategists.

Lots of gearshift required

The Vegvisir Race courses combine tight inshore sailing with potentially rough offshore. There will be lots of changes and “gearshifts”, when it goes from in-shore to offshore and back to inshore sailing.

Strategy and tactics must be in place before starting taking into account the development in the weather over the next 20 to 50 hours, The sailors can be followed via trackers and video updates.
